These dessert egg rolls are filled with chocolate cake and cream cheese then dipped in a light sugar coating. Top with vegan whip for the most amazing dessert!
This post was created in partnership with JSL Foods, Twin Dragon Egg Roll Wrappers, as part of their blogger recipe challenge. However, all opinions and recipes created are my own and brought to you for your “free-from” eating pleasure.
Remember last week when I made those vegan Tex Mex Egg Rolls? Well, JSL Foods sent me a huge package of their vegan Twin Dragon products (egg rolls, wonton wrappers, and dumpling wraps) and I happened to have some egg roll wrappers left so I knew I couldnβt let them go to waste. Instead of making another savory egg roll, I let my sweet tooth take over and decided to make some dessert egg rolls, Chocolate Cake Dessert Egg Rolls to be exact! 🎉
Have you ever heard of a dessert egg roll? You may not have, so let’s start with this one…. do you like chocolate cake? We’ll be friends regardless of your answer but one look at this blog and you’ll quickly realize that I am obsessed with all things chocolatey. In fact, I just made an allergy-friendly birthday cake using my favorite Chocolate Raspberry Cake recipe and can I just tell you, it was sooooo good. Now, although the recipe I’m sharing today isn’t an actual cake, per se, it came about as a result of making this adorable construction cake. Let me explain.
I always have a reason to make dessert…if not for the blog, it’s because we are hosting some get-together, celebrating a friends birthday or I’m making a special order treat for someone whose child has a food allergy. Therefore, there’s a lot of cake, cupcakes and brownies around here. The cake above needed some leveling and instead of throwing that yummy cake top away, I just put all the “scraps” aside, figuring that I’d make cake balls with them or something. But this time, I didn’t get that far. Instead, I looked at those extra egg roll wrappers, then the container of chocolate cake and a visions of Dessert Egg Rolls danced in my head. REALLY!
All I needed now was something creamy to balance out the chocolate. Thankfully I had an extra container of vegan cream cheese in my fridge (I made a lot of Pumpkin Swirl Cheesecake this Thanksgiving) which was exactly what I was looking for! Then, like every Mad Scientist does, I went after it! Laying out the egg roll wrappers, spreading on the cream cheese then layering in the chocolate cake! My idea was coming together in a cute little wrapped package.
I know, I know…..making egg rolls can seem dauting and time consuming but once you try it, you’ll realize it’s not that hard at all!
And when you’re ready to make this recipe (and you really, really should) definitely watch the video below ⬇οΈ! It will show you just how easy it is to make, roll, and fry these chocolate cake filled, dessert egg rolls!
But letβs talk about how these things actually taste.
Um. Basically, they are a party in your mouth.
Crispy on the outside, warm, chocolate-y & creamy on the inside, topped with a coating of sugar– oh my goodness! I know the sugar adds a few extra calories, but itβs dessert people. And since we go big or go home around here 😂 I highly recommend serving these with whipped cream (vegan of course) and sprinkles, because who doesnβt want whip or sprinkles with their chocolate cake?!
Do yourself a favor and make these chocolate cake dessert egg rolls tonight. Not only will they make you happy, but these will bring a smile to the faces of everyone you share them with!

These look so fun!! I cannot believe I’ve never thought to make chocolate egg rolls. We’ve filled them with mangos, sticky rice, coconut, and even bananas. Sometimes drizzling with caramel or chocolate but these take the cake and I think my girls would love them!!
