Grocery shopping for a family with special dietary restrictions has gotten easier over the years.  I have found that it is safest to stay on the outside of the aisles and stick with mostly fruits and veggies.  Once I make my way toward the center of the store it is filled with all kinds of processed foods and very little of them are safe for our little guy. Occasionally you find a specialty item that seems like a life saver but for the most part, it's a tricky time walking through those areas, especially when it comes to Protein Bars.

Now that we’ve wrapped up the year and beginning anew, it’s a good time for a fresh start. That means getting back to healthy foods and healthy routines again.

Beautiful & elegant pancakes, bursting with flavors of orange and fresh pomegranate. I have made a LOT of pancake recipes in my day, like Italian pancakes, fluffy blender pancakes, berry smoothie pancakes, gluten-free pumpkin spice pancakes, banana corn pancakes, even chocolate chip pancakes but these Pomegranate Orange Pancakes with Orange-Maple Glaze are by far my favorite. Made with fresh orange juice, seasonal pomegranate and spiked with orange zest, they actually taste refreshing.  Who would have thought, A REFRESHING pancake recipe during the winter!

  Bowl food. It's the latest craze! But while I was creating a Pinterest board for vegan bowl food, Jackie Sobon went ahead and created an awesome cookbook.  Darn it!  :)  Actually, I LOVE this cookbook.  It is filled with more than 100 one-dish, plant-based bowls that everyone can enjoy, vegan or not.  They're hearty, nutritious and delicious, and sure to please anyone.  Just take a look at that Apple Pie Smoothie Bowl, doesn't it look fun?.

HOLA!  Buenos dias? Having just returned from Mexico on family vacation, I am completely inspired to share an incredibly easy to make, inexpensive, protein rich, Breakfast burritos.  But before I do that, I just have to say how impressed I was with our trip to Cabo. Beyond it just being so darn pretty, and not mention relaxing, everyone we met were kind & polite, even when we passed on buying their goods they were selling on the marina.  What really blew me away, is that almost every restaurant we went to for dinner, asked right off about food allergies, even the gentleman taking our reservations! Way to make a food-allergy-mom feel more comfortable!   I can't remember the last time one of my waiters here actually asked about any potential allergies.  Needless to say, it was a wonderful time away and I am thankful everyone took such good care of us.

Vegan & nut free. www.xanderfriendlyfoods.coWe're kinda boring when it comes to breakfast Monday -Friday.  It's either oatmeal, a protein shake or toast with SunButter or avocado on top.  That's mostly how we roll here in the Dawson home, so don't feel bad because you haven't made a beautiful pancake stack this week.  I just honestly don't have time for that during the school year, HOWEVER, weekends are a different story!  Weekends are the perfect time to pull out your apron, grab your mixing bowls and make something amazing!

Pancakes are great, waffles are wonderful but CINNAMON ROLLS....those are amazing, especially when they are free of dairy, eggs & nuts!
